Interpretation and translation from Romany language (Romany, Gypsy, or Gipsy)
Romany, Gypsy, or Gipsy – the language of the Romani people.
Due to increasing inquiries from a number of European and in particular Scandinavian authorities for interpretation and translation services from Romani, Scandinavia Consult has formed a team of linguists and is now able to provide translation to Swedish, English, etc, from the following Romani dialects:
- Dasikane Romani ,
- Horahane Romani,
- C – dialect
- Kalderashi dialect,
- Wallachian dialect ,
- Erli dialect
- The so-called tin workers dialect
Why a team?
It is well known that there is no uniform Romani language but a large number of dialects, different from each other. Traditionally, the Roma population speaks both their dialect and the language of the relevant country.
Their vocabulary is relatively small and mainly associated with everyday life. They often borrow words and concepts from the language they are in contact with when they talk about more recent phenomena.
Therefore, sometimes a sentence, even a phrase, can be a combination of several languages.
The borrowings are used with their original lexical meaning, however the words follow the rules of the Romani language in terms of case endings and other suffixes. Thus very often a simple word can be almost unidentifiable.
That is why sometimes more than one specialist is needed to understand the meaning of a concept.
